(no subject)

[Luke's... tired. Tired enough that he's out in the lobby with his knitting and he doesn't even care if anybody sees him doing it, for once.

He'd gone home, of course, when the doors had arrived. How could he not? He'd gone home expecting things to be different. Thinking that after Monocle, after that Clive, he'd be able to actually admit to his own Layton the way that he feels, because all the Laytons he's met here have been fine with it and his own should be too, by that logic. It hadn't helped at all, though. He'd still been too scared to say a word about it, things had still been just and strained and awkward between them thanks to the tension of him wanting to say something and Layton knowing there was something wrong but not wanting to pry. He'd tried, though, only to be dragged back just as he'd finally worked up the courage to try bringing it up.

He'd managed to avoid company after he first came back, but by now Luke has gotten lonely enough to want any company. He's too tired to actually go seek anyone out, though, and he can't decide whose company he wants. Hence why he's just curled up in the lobby, just knitting sluggishly.

Come poke him?

[Today is the day that Monocle deals with depressed Lukes, apparently. Needless to say, he is concerned about one of his charge's well-being and approaches Luke quietly. After observing him knitting for a moment, he decides to speak up.]

How was... your visit home?

[For once, Monocle drops his airs and graces, sitting down against the wall next to Luke.]

Surely if your home world was that terrible you'd like it here more by comparison?

[Looks away.]

You poor sod- ...boy. You poor boy...

Perhaps... the Dressingroom will repeat what it's done with the doors another time, so that you might be able to try again.

You can't know that. You've certainly... showed a large degree of confidence while you've been here.

It would be rather hard to explain most of this. But... you shouldn't let that discourage you.

[He looks ahead, sighing to himself.]

I would much prefer your company than to lose you, yes.

...Even if your own Layton was to arrive here.

[Descole sits own on the floor in front of him and takes the other side of the yarn. Noticing what he was doing, he reaches over to a drawer and takes out two needles, and he starts knitting as well. Before Luke can say anything, he gives an unsettling sigh.]

Hello Luke.

[He gives a small smile staring down.]

I used to knit with my mother. She taught me when I was very little, and when she could get off work, she would teach me each time something new. She also taught me to sew, to cook, to dance...

[Descole shrugs to Luke and goes back down to knitting.]

My mum always insisted I knew all these things. I never knew why. It's funny, I kind of miss her.

[He smiles again. He's not wearing his cape, or his hat, his muffler isn't even on. He's just wearing a casual tight fitting suit and his mask. Obviously, he's not acting like himself.]

You don't seem okay.

I s'pose so.

[He notices the unsettled look that Luke is giving.]

What's wrong? Seriously. You can tell me. I'm not going to use it against you, and I'm not trying to win you over an election I can care less about, I just...

[He just wants to think about something else, he *needs* someone else's problems.]

You look like you need someone to talk too.

I'm not going to judge you. And the worst thing that you can do to yourself is bottle your emotions and problems.

[He would know.]

But if you want to talk about something else, by all means, go for it. Start a conversation, hmm?

[He gives a genuine smile.]

Well, there's a certain person I don't want to win, and what better to change that but try to run myself. I could just make a smear campaign but that's not fair, is it?

[He snickers.]

I just have a lot on my mind, that's come to my attention since I've been thrust upon the Dressing Room.
