[Like all of the residents of the Dressing Room, Monocle awoke this morning to find that he could not tell a lie. After considering this for sometime he decided that, in light of this, now is the perfect time to end his current silence in regards to the election and give people the chance to talk to him.

He's in the lobby and is making an announcement, if anyone cares to listen.]

My fellow residents of the Dressing Room, I'm sure you've all noticed that today our humble home has decided to grant us a blessing that causes us to only speak the truth. To me, this seems like a very appropriate measure to take in the run up to an election. It keeps the candidates as honest as you all deserve for them to be.

Perhaps some of you have noticed that while the other two candidates have spoken at length about their appeal, I have said little to nothing. This is because I am aware of the great many rumors being spread about me. Of course, I naturally want to disprove these rumors, but how could I promise to you all that I am telling the truth about these matters?

The current situation allows me to promise that.

So if you have any concerns at all regarding the election, please speak with me now about them and I will answer as best I can.

But before that, there is one rumor that I want to put a stop to. Another candidate has unfortunately been spreading slander about my actions in regard to our own female Descole. So I want to make one thing very clear:

I was not the Layton who raped her or scarred her by carving my name into her chest.

This was a Layton from her own world, who I am in no way connected to. And this is something that I wanted to make very clear, as a gentleman should never harm a lady as such.

Sorry for going on at such length, but I feel you all deserve to know the truth. So please, if you wish to talk with me I'd be honored to hear from any of the citizens who the Prime Minister will be representing.

I've heard talk. I'm not sure whether someone has misunderstood what you have said or come to their own conclusions about the matter, but I wanted to make it very clear that I would not do to you what that man did.

I had a feeling that you would bring this subject up, Clive, and therefore wish to present you with my apologies. You may recall that we were two of the first people to arrive in this place, barring the good Lady Descole. Upon that time I did not understand the Dressing Room very well. While I knew that you were not the Clive I was familiar with, back then I saw no reason to see you as being that different from him. The Clive of my world is my partner and enjoys... shall we say, "rough intercourse". He often makes out that he does not enjoy it, when actually he very much does. At the time I assumed that you were the same as him, but was wrong.

So while I'm not trying to justify my actions, I am saying that I would have not done so had I known more about you and maintain that I didn't actually engage in any sort of sexual activity with you at the end of the day.

I'm not trying to gain your trust, just a mutual understanding that I did not hurt you in the same way that man did and should not be accused as such.

So what is your angle then, my component, because I'm not going to lie, hell, I can't, but why the hell do you want this elections anyway?

You stopped because my mother kicked you in the face. Whether or not you knew I was different to your own Clive, you knew that I was not him, and even with a lack of knowledge about this place...

Well. I hardly think a man who jumps to conclusions that would lead to rape is one that this place ought to have as its ruler.

Because I view this place as a growing society. Anyone can see the problem with having a society that isn't governed and seemingly has no laws. Those of ill-will could run amok and do whatever they like.

I believe that government is important. That the people should be represented. Giving them a chance to choose who they feel would do that best is a much more superior method than that of an outdated monarchy forced upon them, I've always felt.

So I want the election because I don't feel secure living in a world with no rules, whether good people could be harmed because there is no one to stop it from being that way.

Rape? You didn't seem to be objection that much as the time. I rather feel that you were enjoying yourself before your mother stepped in.

Rape is a big word, Clive, and not one that you should be throwing about willy-nilly.

Then I ask you, please, to correct the Descole who is spreading this rumor about me. Because I doubt that he will listen to me, but the two of you seem to have a friendship.

Except that you seem disinclined to believe that it was a potential rape, and your own excuse suggests that you would have stayed that way throughout.

No, Clive, I explained to you earlier that the similarities in your actions to the Clive I was familiar with were what caused me to act in such a way. However, it wouldn't have taken actually getting to the act for it to become apparent that you were not like him and would not enjoy it. In which case I would have ceased trying to engage in such activities with you.

While I can't force you, I can only ask you to pass on the message on my behalf. You must admit that it would be unfair for me to be made to look that way because of something I did not do.

Are you sure you don't just want power? Because I, like so many others here, don't trust you. I may be widely known as a criminal mastermind, but you're known more to others as this malevolent being. I don't trust you. I hope no one else does. The other Layton, from what I've heard from Ms. Clive, is also a malevolent person. You are planning on being a dictator, I know, because you offered me a seat of power if I remembered you.

My double doesn't trust you, why should I or any other of the Descoles, which may or may not grow?

No, I cannot. And I'm not trying to. I just want honesty right now and these are the best answers I can give to your concerns.

To be completely frank, the Descole are certainly a group of people whom I wish to protect the residents of this place from.

Let's look at your track record, shall we? You have attempted to destroy a town of innocents to get to a hidden garden, kidnapped a young lady to force her to do your bidding, held hostage people attending an opera and made many attempts to kill myself, my friends and anyone who has been standing in your way.

You are a dangerous man.

If you were to become ruler of this place then I would worry greatly for those who oppose you.

That is one of the reasons I wish to run against you, because I care for the citizens of this place like I did for my own back in London. Regardless of how you feel about the presentation, I want what's best for this place.

Mmm. Well. You're a politician, though, so forgive me if I don't trust that this place is actually capable of making you honest.

I'm dangerous, says the man who wants to turn the dressing room into a dictatorship. I know fir one thing, I wouldn't be destryung cities and lives if I was elected in here, and that's because I, like hopefully most people in this hell hole, don't want a ruler, someone who keeps "order" in this distpoian society.

If someone opposes you, what are you going to do? Kill them? We don't have a jail, or a jury, ir anything of the sort. We all have our biases against each other, a ruler can only make ut worse.

Besides I'm not dangerous. Not anymore. Ixhave no need foe revenge and...and villainous ideals here, as no one should. Except foe whatever you're planning. I honestly hope no one votes for your or your double.

God, I wish we had more candidates...
