[The Layton sitting on a chair in the lobby doesn't look particularly bothered by the fact that he's somewhere new. In actual fact he's just calmly drinking a cup of tea that got dragged along with him. Someone will come tell him what's going on, he's certain of that. And why put in the effort to go searching for information, when it'll come to him with no effort on his part?]

Ahh. In my world, he had a habit of shoving knives into the gears whenever he managed to get in there without being caught. Which was often, despite everyone's best efforts.

He certainly does know how to keep himself occupied when not being monitored, that's for certain.

I think he was rather jealous of the project for stealing my attention from him. He also seemed rather... concerned by the idea of Claire returning.

No one was more concerned about that than I was, I can assure you.

[He snorts.]

I'm certain, yes. Albeit with a less... emphatic method of showing it than Clive.

That would be the case for many things, it would seem.

It's hard to react as emphatically as him, truth be told.

...where is Luke, in your world?

He is... he has been put away.

[Awkward moment when Monocles angst over Lukes together.]

I'd already made my peace with losing him, double. Clive's actions were... nothing that I hadn't expected from him.

And therein lies the differences between our Clives, I would assume.

Yours seems rather... without all the fire that made him so interesting.

He was a better behaved pet and that was all I required him to be. I never wanted him as much as I wanted to keep him distracted.

Clive was never a pet.

He was... an experiment, in some respects. In other ways he was... a control. He keeps me grounded, in his own way.

How nice for you to have such limitations.

Limitations? Not at all. He is...

...Clive stops me from slipping into madness. His own insanity is the key to it. He can... see the signs better than others.

Well then, I suppose you would be thankful to him that you're not mad.

[Smiles contently.]

It makes it... easier. He won't let me fall into madness. He's rather claimed it as his own domain - as I'm sure you're aware, having spent time with him.

Yes, I've seen that he is rather territorial on the matter.

[Pauses.]

I suppose that this conversation has gone on long enough.

So desperate to be rid of me? Or perhaps just for me to turn Clive against myself and back into your arms?
